Online Personal Property Registration

Beginning Spring semester 2008 students may register their personal property online with the UCF Police Department. Items such as computers, bikes, ipods, cameras, and other valuables can be entered. Why would you want to do this? If you’re not a good record keeper, having the make, model, and serial number registered may help recover items if they are stolen or impounded. For example, you parked your bike to a railing and it gets impounded. You want to claim your bike but have no way to prove it’s yours.

Having it registered will make it possible to return it to you. Or, your laptop is stolen from your car. The only way police can enter your computer into the national database for items stolen is by having the serial number. Now you will be able to retrieve the information so that stolen item may be recovered and returned to you anywhere in the United States.

To help prevent the theft to begin with, try using “Operation ID”, a FREE service offered by the Community Relations Unit. We will engrave your driver license number on your valuables to help prevent the theft, but if the item is stolen, identifying your item is much easier when it’s engraved.

Call the Community Relations office (407 823-2165 or 823-6576) to set up an Operation ID program at your UCF Housing area or to set up an appointment to bring your items to be engraved at the John T. Washington Center office.

NOTE: The Property registration application will be unvailable until 08/28/08 in the afternoon.
